China has unveiled the CR450, a prototype of its next-generation high-speed train capable of reaching test speeds up to 450 km/h. The CR450 was introduced in Beijing on December 29, 2024.
The CR450 is designed to operate commercially at speeds of 400 km/h, surpassing the current maximum operating speed of 350 km/h for China's existing high-speed trains. The new model aims to enhance passenger comfort with larger cabin spaces and improved safety features, including shorter braking distances.
China's high-speed rail network is already the largest globally, with over 46,000 kilometers of track. The introduction of the CR450 is part of China's efforts to advance its high-speed rail capabilities and maintain its position as a leader in railway technology.
The CR450 project began in 2018, aiming to develop faster, more efficient, and environmentally friendly high-speed trains. The unveiling of the prototype marks a significant milestone in this initiative.
The CR450 is expected to undergo further testing before entering commercial service. Once operational, it will become the world's fastest high-speed train, enhancing connectivity between major cities and contributing to economic development.
