

Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar was sworn in as the 23rd Governor of Kerala on January 2, 2025, at Raj Bhavan in Thiruvananthapuram. The oath of office was administered by Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court, Justice Nitin Jamdar, at 10:30 AM.
Arlekar succeeds Arif Mohammed Khan, who has been appointed as the Governor of Bihar. The ceremony was attended by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, his Cabinet colleagues, and senior leaders from various political parties.
Prior to his appointment in Kerala, Arlekar served as the Governor of Bihar and Himachal Pradesh. He has also held positions as a Cabinet Minister in the Government of Goa and as Speaker of the Goa Legislative Assembly.
Arlekar arrived in Thiruvananthapuram on January 1, 2025, and was received at the international airport by Chief Minister Vijayan, Kerala Assembly Speaker A N Shamseer, and ministers K Rajan and Ramachandran Kadannappally.
The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, appointed Arlekar as the Governor of Kerala, with Arif Mohammed Khan being transferred to Bihar.
Arlekar's political career includes significant contributions in various capacities within the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
